Martel-Harper Challenge (2009 2nd Quarter)

It’s time to sign up for the second quarter 2009 Martel-Harper Challenge. This challenge is to read two books during the quarter from the list that Yann Martel sends Stephen Harper, a list that is always growing. The list has fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and children’s books on it, not to mention classics old and new.
To join for second quarter 2009, commit to read and review two books from the Martel-Harper challenge list between April 1, 2009 and June 30, 2009 by letting us know in the comments. You can choose the books now (in a pool of a few possible choices or two specific books) or you can choose the two books as you go this quarter. Because the list is growing every two weeks, you are free to change your choices at a later point in the quarter if you want.
I will provide a link for your reviews for 2009 2nd quarter in the coming weeks. A hub page for this challenge can be found here on Rebecca Reads; I will keep that updated with links to the current quarter’s challenge posts. Feel free to use one of the buttons above to promote the challenge.

Are we signing up here in the comments? If so, I am signing up! Here is the link to my post. Thanks for hosting this fun challenge!
Jessica, yes! Sorry if it wasn’t clear. I’ll add that to the post!
I’m in.
I recently found out about this from Eva’s blog at A Striped Armchair, and would like to participate! Looking forward to the challenge and I’ll post about it soon on my blog.

Lily and Valerie, glad to have you join the challenge!
I did terribly in the 1st quarter, so I’ll join again! I am trying to keep up with Martel but it seems like Harper will never stop being PM — even if he didn’t make it into the photos at the G20…
So I’ll just pick a couple titles randomly from Martel’s long list.
I’m done! Granted, I cheated by completing Miss Julie and The Watsons, which are probably among the shortest works on the list. But I wasn’t trying to cheat … I’m going down Martel’s list in order (skipping the ones that aren’t in my library system). I’ll probably finish at least 1 more in April.
Miss Julie – August Strindberg
The Watsons – Jane Austen

I only got one of the two books read for the first challenge. But I’d like to go another round please. Thank you.
Alright Sandra! Welcome back. This quarters challenge goes through June 30. Then we’ll have a third quarter challenge too, if you don’t get the two this quarter.
