Nature Recycles, How about You? by Michelle Lord, illustrated by Cathy Morrison (Arbordale, 2013), is a realistically illustrated picture book that brings awareness to how plants and animals reuse things in nature to survive. This includes a wide variety of examples, including a hermit using old shells and nature recycling water through the water cycle. After a sentence explaining the example, each page of text echoes the refrain “[Animal name] recycles. How about you?”

The last two-page spread ends with a first person narration from a child describing how he recycles, with the common refrain, “I recycle. How about you?” The just-right length of the text makes this a choice nonfiction book for a read aloud. In addition, four pages of extensive end matter make this a great resources for teachers looking for more activity ideas or information.
